What is a Metric?
Metrics in the Rekener Platform are reflections of your data from other systems. Metrics live on your accounts and tell you about your accounts. Examples of metrics in the Rekener Platform are:
- Leads Created, Opportunities Created, Bookings, First Deal Date, etc.
The Rekener Platform has a flexible data structure that allows you to create custom metrics to meet the requirements of your business. There are two types of metrics you can create in Rekener:
- Metrics that allow you to show data from your connected systems
- Metrics that allow you to perform calculations on metrics that already exist in Rekener (these metrics could have been created by you, or could be standard Rekener metrics)
Creating a new metric to show custom data
To create a new field, navigate to Settings --> Field Settings in the app. From here you have two fields choices: New Data Import Field and New Synthetic Field. Select New Data Import Field to create a new field that brings in custom data from one of your systems. Fill in the fields on the page in order to create your field.
- Display Name: This is the name that will show up in pages in the app after your field is created.
- Family: Families represent the different data objects that are connected to Rekener. For example, Marketo is a data object. Salesforce Leads are a data object. Salesforce Opportunities are a data object, etc. Choose the data object from which you want to create your field.
- Rekscript Name: The Rekscript name is the name you will use to reference this field when creating groups, or creating synthetic fields. The Rekscript name is created automatically, based on your Display Name and the Family that you are using.
- Reporting Type:
- Summary Data: Choosing Summary Data will store just one value for each Rekener Account. An example of where you would want to use Summary Data is if you are creating a field for the date the first lead was created in each account.
- Time Series: Choosing Time Series will capture values for your field over time. An example of where you want to use Time Series is creating a field for Renewal Bookings. You want to record Renewal Bookings over time, so that you could graph Renewal Bookings by day, monthly, quarter, or year. Using time series also allows you to see the value for this field in a certain date range. For instance, you could answer the question: what were Renewal Bookings between 2017-01-01 and 2017-03-31.
- Reporting Level:
- Account: Use the account level for all fields except for Product line item-based fields
- Product: Use the product level if you are creating a field based on Salesforce Product line items.
- Aggregator: This is how you want to summarize the data for this field either for the account (if it is Summary Data), or for the time period (if it is Time Series). Different options are available depending on the Data Type you select below.
- Formula: This, when combined with the “Aggregator” field, tells Rekener what to store as data for this field. For instance, if you just want to count each record that meets your criteria for this field, put the number 1 in the Formula, and set your aggregator to SUM. If you want to store a particular value, such as the Amount field from each record, then make your formula equal to that field’s name, and set the aggregator to SUM.
- Condition: These are the constraints to isolate the records that qualify to have this field captured. For instance, if you are looking at Opportunities and only want to record those with an Opportunity Type of Renewal, then your constraint would be OpportunityType = ‘Renewal’.
- Data Type: This is how you want your data to display, ie text, integer, percentage, etc.
- Date Grouping: This only appears for Time Series Data. This is the date field you want to use to record this field over time. For instance, you may want to display opportunity information by Created Date, or you may want to display it by Close Date, or a different date field.
Create a new field that allows you to perform calculations on fields that already exist in Rekener:
Select New Synthetic Field to create a new field performs calculations on fields that already exist in Rekener. Synthetic fields are useful for calculating conversion rates and other ratios. Fill in the fields on the page in order to create your field.
- Display Name: This is the name that will show up in pages in the app after your field is created.
- Rekscript Name: This will fill in automatically based on your Display Name. By default, the beginning of the Rekscript name will be "$Synthetic.". If you want to group similar synthetic fields together to make them more easily findable, you can edit this prefix to be a category name. You may edit the rest of the Rekscript name as well.
- Reporting Type:
- Summary Data: Choosing Summary Data will store just one value for each Rekener Account. An example of where you would want to use Summary Data is if you are creating a field for the date your first lead was created in each account.
- Time Series: Choosing Time Series will capture values for your field over time. An example of where you want to use Time Series is creating a field for Renewal Bookings. You want to record Renewal Bookings by day, so that you can plot them over time, and view them daily, monthly, quarterly, etc.
- Reporting Level:
- Account: Use the account level for all fields except for Product-based fields
- Product: Use the product level if you are creating a field based on Salesforce Product line items.
- Formula: This tells Rekener what to calculate for this field. You can use the Functions and Fields that show up in the wizard when clicking "Add Function" or "Add Field".
- Data Type: This is how you want your data to display, ie text, integer, percentage, etc.
